Two local events this month support the goal of literacy for children and adults in Ocala and throughout Marion County.
Florida Agriculture Literacy Day takes place on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. This annual reading event is a chance for people involved in the agricultural industry to go into Marion County elementary school classrooms and read a children’s non-fiction book about Florida’s livestock and poultry industry. This year, farmers, ranchers, FFA teachers and students, University of Florida master gardeners, IFAS extension and 4-H agents along with other agriculture industry representatives will read Drive Through Florida: Livestock and Poultry.
The Sixth Annual Kiss the Horse for Literacy campaign will conclude on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. This campaign features prominent business people and community leaders who volunteer to fundraise for the Marion County Literacy Council. The candidate who raises the most donations has the distinguished honor of “kissing the horse”.
