General Home
Vinegar glass cleaner– For windows and mirrors, mix 1/4 cup of vinegar, two cups of water, and a dash or two of liquid Castile soap in a spray bottle. Wipe with a piece of newspaper for a streak-free shine.
Marble counter top cleaner– Stir one tablespoon liquid Castile soap into a quart of warm water. Soak a cloth and wipe counter surfaces. Rinse and wipe dry.
Floor cleaner– You can use the diluted vinegar solution above to clean floors, but vinegar isn’t the best choice for wood or marble. Almost any kind of floor can be cleaned with a solution of 1/4 cup liquid Castile soap and two gallons of warm water.
Kitchen
Baking soda and vinegar garbage disposal freshener– Something wicked emanating from your garbage disposal? Neutralize it by pouring in 1/2 cup of baking soda and one cup of white vinegar. Let sit for ten minutes then run the disposal with the water on.
Stovetop and vent hood de-greaser– Add some generous squirts of liquid Castile soap to two cups of hot water, then scrub the stovetop, vent hood, an burners to cut through built-up grease.
Baking soda oven cleaner- Even if you have a self-cleaning oven, this simple fix is handy to know. To get a shiny-like-new oven, spritz the interior down with plain water, then sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda everywhere, especially the bottom. If there are any dry spots of baking soda left, spritz them lightly with water. Leave it for a few hours (with the oven OFF). Wipe up the paste, and all the baked-on grime should come with it. Be sure to clean up any bits of paste that may have dried and been left behind so they don’t smoke the next time you use your oven.
Bathroom
Toilet spray cleaner– For difficult grime, add two teaspoons of tea tree oil to two cups of water in a spray bottle, and spritz all around the inner rim. Let sit for up to 30 minutes and scrub.
Vinegar showerhead soak– For icky mineral deposits on showerheads, pour vinegar into a plastic grocery bag and knot the handles over the neck of the showerhead. Secure with rubber bands and let soak overnight. Rinse in the morning.
Multi-purpose scouring powder– Mix one cup baking soda, 1/2 cup non iodized salt, 1/2 cup washing soda, and five drops lemon essential oil (optional) in a bowl. Pour into a mason jar and cut holes in the top for easier sprinkling. Dampen surface with water or white vinegar, sprinkle powder, and let sit for five minutes. Scrub until clean, and rinse with water or vinegar.
Laundry
Steam iron mineral removal– Fill the iron with equal parts white vinegar and water and press the steam button to clean mineral deposits. Turn off, let cool, empty, and rinse.
