One of the first things you see upon visting Katya Vineyards‘ website is a quote from Euripedes’ play Bacchae: “Where there is no wine, there is no love.” The Sokol family is bringing plenty of both to Ocala with the July 27th opening of Katya Vineyards Tasting Room downtown, where they plan to showcase their handcrafted wines, hold wine-education classes, and offer classic Southern hospitality to all who walk through their doors (plus the wifi is free!).
Katya Vineyards is the fruit of Patricia, Katherine, and David Sokol’s vision to bring luscious and distinctive viniculture to the Marion County area. The husband-wife-and-daughter team began their foray into wine-making in the fall of 2010. Patricia and Katherine handled the business side while David focused on his passion for the vines themselves which he cares for, he says, “as if they are family.” Only three years later, their 24-acre vineyard in sprawling Morriston is ready for the world and projected to yield 15,000 cases of wine a year.
Using California hybrid grapes well-suited to our sub-tropical North Central Florida climate, the Sokols have crafted white and red blends that capture the local flavor of Marion County. Whether you prefer dry and spicy, sweet and light, or dark and berry-bold, wine lovers of every stripe will find something to delight them at the Tasting Room.
In addition to delicious wines, Katya Vineyards Tasting Room will offer a variety of wine-education classes to the public. They will also be the home of Sokol Vineyards Wine Institute, the only training and certification program for wait staff in North Central Florida who are serious about wine and viniculture. As a member of the Wine Scholar Guild, Society of Wine Educators, Culinary Wine Institute, and the American Institute of Wine and Food, Katya Vineyards is committed to helping the people of Ocala enjoy the best, local, lovingly-made wines the area has to offer.
Be there on July 27th when Katya Vineyards’ Tasting Room goes live and opens its doors to Marion County!
